The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has succeeded in getting various airlines to join in on the “use your cellphone as a ticket” party. We probably wont be able to use our cellphones as tickets just yet, expect to see it by 2010. The standards consists of a barcode that would be received as a text message and can be scanned directly from the cellphone’s screen. The barcode system will be able to accommodate various barcode systems such as Aztec, Datamatrix, and QR codes. Aside from being convenient for end users, its expected to save the industry more than $500 million a year. Yay.
