Motorola’s efforts for the development of WiMAX was backed today by the companies first mobile WiMAX chipset. This allows Motorola devices as well as other manufactures to use the Intel wireless technology in mobile handsets. The new chip is small enough to fit in tighter environments, while at the same time consuming less power at 4G speeds. A WiMAX chipset is believed to allow for DSL and Cable like speeds, which are faster than 3G speeds such as EVDO and HSDPA. Motorola intends to release WiMAX devices in 2008 which includes Sprints upcoming Xohm. Currently AT&T is developing its 3G network and is set on using the less universal LTE 4G standard, and may try to resist the adaptation of WiMAX technology.
