A new law has been put forth to the US senate that could potentially reduce or even eliminate contract early termination fees. The Consumers Federation of America and the Consumers Union have supported the new proposed law. The ETF would be eliminated or reduced to anyone whom decides to cancel their service within 30 days of signing up, allowing customers to back out of poor performing services without being penalized. Currently Verizon is the only American cellular provider to pro-rate its cancellation fees.
