A handful of mobile device manufacturers which includes big names like Nokia and Sumsung announced yesterday that they are looking to introduce a new memory standard, to help reduce the necessity of adapters and rid compatibility issues. Nokia, notably setting the bar pretty high for the called “Universal Flash Storage” medium, saying “Today, users experience a three-mionute access time for a 90-minute (4 GB) high-deffinition movie; with the new standard, this would be reduced to a few seconds.” As of now the group is still working on the conceptual designs, but the new standard should be finalized in 2009.
