The European Commission is proposing to abolish a rule enacted in 1987 which limited the use of the low frequency spectrum 900MHz to just GSM services. If the commission is successful, telecommunication companies will be able to use the spectrum for media centric services such as video and internet. The move is estimated to cut costs for telecoms by 40%! This sounds really similar to what’s going on the states side, check out our article about the 700MHz spectrum opening up and Google.
