Near-field communication, or NFC is a technology which has been in development for a while. Once it is integrated into mobile devices, you can bring your mobile device within a few centimeters of another to make a connection. This would make Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pearings faster, but this isn’t the main point. NFC can be used for monetary transactions! Juniper Research thinks $22 billion will pass through NFC based transactions like Europeans mPayments, by next year. As always its going to be a while until we see this on the US side. Japan has something similar to this, dubbed Felica, for mobile phones where you can buy train tickets and drinks.
