Great news for all you Cingular 8525 users; HTC released the software ROM upgrade to your device. Remember like any other ROM updates you must make a backup of all the information on your device as it will delete everything. Personal information such as contacts, calendar, tasks, etc. can be backed up using ActiveSync. Be careful to follow directions to the t, if not you may permanently brick your phone.

Not sure of the exact changes in the 8525 performance but post here in this thread the changes you see.
*EDIT*
I went back to the page and either they updated the page or I missed it the first time. But here is the list of what the update includes.
New Daylight Saving Time rules.
Push To Talk
Cellular Video
"Wireless Modem" is replaced with "Internet Sharing".
AT&T Music
Includes Music player, Shop Music, Music ID, Streaming Music, Music Video and Community.
Access to MediaNet via WiFi without having to change the device connection settings.
Network Icons have been updated:
Show E icon when EDGE is detected.
Show 3G icon when UMTS is detected.
X-Button application-
Allows the user to determine what the X button does when tapped (close program or minimize program). This will help the user manage available memory
Branding will be updated to reflect AT&T rather than Cingular.
Wait wait..here is some new stuff....a new tutorial and a new "X-Button" setting in system settings...you can set the x button to actually CLOSE programs....nice..nice...still investigating..
I upgraded this morning and voice command still won't work with bluetooth. How disappointing. I haven't noticed any improvements yet. There are more programs to purchase, music, video, etc., but if you don't purchase them, like "get good" the icons can't be removed. The upgrade went smoothly, taking less than 10 minutes.
The update was really easy except for downloading the file from the HTC site, I kept getting a corrupt file message but right clicking the download link and saving it fixed that. The AT&T boot screen is annoyingly loud to the point of obnoxious.
There is a "x" button that closes apps when you x out, a very nice feature to save memory.
Voice Command 1.6 still doesn't work BUT using a Plantronics 640 headset does activate Voice Command on my device! At least this is an improvement from before when nothing would happen through the headset with the previous ROM. I'm sure that it won't be long before the guys at XDA Developers figure out a work around for this to initiate calls and hear announcements through the headset.
A soft reset seems much quicker than in the past and that is with Pocket Informant 2007, PocketBreeze, Pocket Weather, alarmToday and Memmaid installed.
One other thing I just noticed is that my bluetooth headset has a very noticeable hiss when I listen to voice mails. Nor can I get Voice Command to announce incoming calls no matter how I configure it. Tomorrow I'll play around with it some more and maybe try Voice Command 1.5 to see if that changes anything. That hiss is extremely annoying.
Ok so Ive played around with my PDA last night and this morning...just to reiterate...there is nothing to scream about here. Update went smooth but all it does is change all Cingular logos to ATT and PTT is available..but honestly....who id going to use PTT. The 3G "demo" when you turn the device on is to the point of giving me a headache. Overall, they good have packaged this with the WM6 upgrade. Which I wont hold my breath for.
I have been trying to do this ROM update all night and it never works.
The RUU program seems to kill my active synch and my active synch icon disappears from the Tray down by the clock.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Make sure you have your phone connected to your PC first then run the RUU. The RUU does seem to kill active sync but I think that it has to to install the new ROM on your phone.
Has anyone noticed decreased bluetooth spoon quality with this update? My Plantronics 640 has a very annoying hiss now and constantly get crackles through my headset. I didn't have this problem before this update.....

I agree with Texican. My jabra BT250V worked flawlessly before. Now there is hissing and overall a decrease in bluetooth quality.

Newbie question here...I have no problem backing up files, photos, music, etc. But what about 3rd party apps and settings? I have several apps installed on my 8525 and I've spent a fair amount of time getting Spb Pocket Plus to look and work like I want. How does one go about backing up all that information? Re-installing and re-configuring everything sounds like a drag. Thanks. - Jeff
For you to backup your device you will need a third-party backup software. There are several available that you could take a look at, look here to see your options and to see which one will work for you best.

Thanks. A backup program would obviously be useful in any event. I started to do the ROM update but can't seem to create an ActiveSync connection during the upgrade. That is, I'm connected, I start the update program, the screen on my 8525 turns to a series of colored bars, the ActiveSync connection drops, and no information is returned from my phone for the "current version" screen of the update. Not sure how to proceed beyond that point. - Jeff
