Sprint PPC-6800 in the Wild

Sprint is working hard for their variation of the HTC Titan since Telus Mobility in Canada recently released their HTC P4000. The PPC-6800 will be the successor to the previous brick of a phone, the PPC-6700. While running on Windows Mobile 5 AKU 3.3 it will use a Qualcomm MSM7500 400MHz processor, and have 174MB storage and 49MB program memory. Externally it will have a spring loaded QWERTY keyboard which slides out the opposite direction of the PPC-6700, microSD expansion slot and a collapsible stylus.

Rejoice CDMA users! Your time has come.

I'm very happy to say I am the 3rd person in my home province of newfoundland to be the proud owner of one of the Extremely nice devices. This is what I wanted the 6700 to be in the first place.

Odd learning curve with all the buttons moved, addition of a Much needed jog dial, and the inverted slider. 1 day later I've just about made the adjustment.

Initial impressions... Major upgrade from the 6700. lighter, smaller, more solid feel, not as plastically feel. Slider feels a little loose as it does not Lock the way the 6700 did, but its a minor sacrifice. Also, battery life seems greatly improved, by my rough estimation, 35%-50% improvement in life span on the batt.

Wifi G added, full EVDO access, 2.0 camera...

Drawbacks.. had to buy yet another mem format! the 6800 (P4000) uses the MicroSD, not the MiniSD from the 6700. And the headphone jack is propriety. bad call, but if you use BT more than wired, shouldn't make a diff.

Question Decisions

I've got the 6700 right now but it's decided to go all buggy on me, talked to the people at Alltel this morning and guy said that I should wait till the end of Aug instead of making a claim right now so that I can get the 6800. I'd appreciate your thoughts, should I wait and go for the pretty new one, or stick with what I know?
