You’ve probably already heard Novii from NoviiRemote, a very popular piece of software that allows you to transform your Pocket PC into a remote control for your home entertainments equipment. Well Novii advanced their remote control technology and integrated it into an alarm software called Wake&Watch (WAWA).
WAWA is named what it is because it helps you do exactly that. By setting infrared (IR) commands on your device you can turn on your home entertainment system to help wake you up. And once you’re up, your TV is already conveniently turned on for you to start watching. On top of that you have the option to create and save an unlimited number of alarms that are customizable to each day, time, and whether or not you want it to expire after one time.
System Requirements
WAWA will work with any modern Pocket PC and Windows Mobile device with touch screen and an IR port. If your device doesn’t have a IR port you can still you the sound alarm. Click here to check for compatibly and range of the IR.
Installation
To begin you can download either the .exe or .cab file. .exe files need to be run from your computer while your device is connected to your computer via ActiveSync (get the latest version now). .cab files need to be run from your device by either downloading it off the web straight to your device or download it to your computer and transfer it over to your device via ActiveSync.
User Interface
The user interface is very nice with warm colors and the alarms are contrasted with cooler colors. Buttons and the layout are not the conventional rectangles, circles, etc. but rather they are trapezoidal and cartoon-like which I think makes it interesting and good to look at. Setting an Alarm
I found it very straight forward when setting an alarm. Just tap the Add Alarm button on the bottom left and it will bring you to a window for setting alarm time, which days to occur on, and alarm actions which include IR commands and sounds.
To set up an alarm with IR commands, select it and tap settings. Here you set up all the consecutive commands you want. For me I had set up my IR commands to first turn my TV on, then after a five second I had it increase the volume five times every five seconds. I did have a problem at first when setting up an IR command because I didn’t select a COM port, but a quick look through the user’s guide helped resolve the issue. Also the help buttons in the interface give you easy access to answers.
Then setting up an alarm with sounds you go into the play sound settings and select a sound that you have on your device. The current version only supports .wav files for alarms but I would actually like to see it also support mp3 files as those are more popular. Once you select a sound you can set the volume, number of alarm rings, and the interval between each ring. Again, very simple.
Overall Thoughts:
Simply put, Wake&Watch is the best alarm system I’ve used. For me there is no more waking up to an annoying alarm clock that doesn’t even affect me anymore, but now I get to wake up to what I enjoy… TV!
