As most of you may already know Vista, Microsoft’s newest computer operating system was released earlier this week. With Vista comes Windows Mobile Device Center a new way of syncing mobile devices to your computer meaning no more ActiveSync. The new Device Center brings in a more user friendly interface for easy access to programs, media, file management and settings. Also browse through your devices on-board and storage card memory. All in all it seems to do basically the same thing as ActiveSync, it just looks better.
If you have the new Vista and tried the Windows Mobile Device Center tell us what you think of it.
I got Vista up and running and attached my 8525 and was very disappointed in how long it took to sync. It was at least an hour. With XP it was minutes. Maybe it took so long because it was the first sync under Vista but damn....
I updated a few appts. on my desktop and synched the 8525 in Vista using Mobile Device Center and it took over two hours. I finally quit the whole thing, rebooted into XP (I'm running dual boot) and Activesync updated it in about 30 seconds, just like before.
I must have something wrong with my settings. In MDC the 8525 shows it's updating 551 contacts and blows right through the first two hundred. Then it really bogs down. After about a half hour it then says it's updating 251 contacts and plods through each one. Then finally it says it's updating 330 contacts and crawls through those. I don't know where the extra contacts are coming from and why it shows three different populations. I'm going to try to work on it this weekend. So far though, I'm not impressed.
The only frustrating thing for me was having to download this utility from Microsoft's website... after being under that the Windows Syncing center would do the trick.
Downloading and validation aside, the syncing center is a step up from active sync in my opinion and it synced rather quickly with my ppc 6700. The user friendly interface is a plus to me too.
Although the first sync does take forever, subsequent syncs are much faster. Additionally, where I had problems with ActiveSync "finding" my device, I no lonbger have those problems with the syncing center. I am very happy with the new new syncing platform.
I am having problems syncing recoded tv, but I believe this is more of a WMP 11 for Vista issue.

What happens if you try syncing media with the Windows Sync center as opposed to Windows Mobile Device Center?
I was reading a review on vista and it was saying that alot of software & hardware is going to have problems running under vista. That I was also watching a tech program and they were saying if you install vista yourself you will notice that alot of kinks but if you bought a machine with vista on it it worked almost flawless. I am staying away from vista for a good long while I have two desktops both dells running XP home and a Toshiba laptop running XP Pro and I have no problems at all and I am keeping it that way. I go by the old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it. I really think until they work out all of the major problems and other kinks I would just stick with xp.

I have the Windows Mobile Device Center and my SPV C600 (aka Imate SP5) will not sync. WMDC shows it as not connected. The device drivers load when I connect over USB or Bluetooth but the sync does not happen. I have done soft and hard resets, flashed the ROM to a newer version and checked it is still OK on Activesync on a Win2k machine and am stumped. Any ideas?

I cannot get vista to recognize my hp4705 upgraded to mobile 5. % hours on phone with vista support ( not sure they knew what a pda was ). MS suggested I contact HP who said they did not support vista. Any ideas?

Just FYI....I found that once I did a full reboot of my 8525 (hold both soft buttons + reset button) and started out from scratch---the sync went MUCH faster (about 1-2 minutes once connected) and seems to work better now...
Now to start installing my apps again and see how long it takes b4 it crunches to a halt :P
and it seemed to work fine and did not take too long. My question is: where do the contacts and calendar sync to? I can't find the contacts on my CPU after I try to sync. There are not very many options either with the new application.
I printed out the manual that was linked and I followed it word for word (it didn't really tell me anything that I didn't do before). I am still having problems syncing my 8125. It says that it connects and syncs, and I can go in and view my files on my phone, etc. It synced the pictures and .mov files. BUT, it won't sync my contact and phone numbers. What am I doing wrong? Is the contact information supposed to sync to the "Windows Contact" program, or is it supposed to sync to somewhere else? Thanks.
I just moved from XP to Vista and backed up my Activesync profile directory.
Lost the memory card on my WM2003 phone so all of my apps are now gone.
Was hoping that I could copy over the activesync profile directory onto my Vista machine which would bring up the list of apps to add or remove.
Is this possible?
All of my apps were installed not to MAIN MEMORY but direct to STORAGE CARD. When a program is installed to the storage card is it also installed somewhere on the PC? If so, what is the folder; I'll just take that folder and move it over to the corisponding Vista folder.
While this appears to be somewhat of an old thread, the problem w/ WMDC still is very apparant. I've had my Treo 700WX for four months and have basically given up on trying to sync it to my laptop (Vista Home Premium). I've experienced just about every problem mentioned in this thread. Why MS felt the need to change from ActiveSync for Vista powered machines is beyond me. I'm considering wiping Vista from my laptop and replacing it w/ XP, just so I can use ActiveSync, which I know works.
