This is great news for me, as I'm one of very few people around here that use Verizon...
EngadgetMobile has a pic of the CDMA version of the TyTn (8525, Hermes, etc) and it has a rumored release date of Jan. 15 '07!!!
Here's the specs: WM5 AKU 3 256MB flash / 96MB RAM Thumb wheel 802.11b/g Bluetooth 2.0 BBAC -- BroadbandAccess Connect, i.e. tetherable EV-DO microSD slot
According to Ryan Block, there's more VZW news coming today - stay tuned!

Hoooorooo!
Looks like VZW finaly caved on the WIFI issue.
Good news for you, I think.
I was a STAUNCH VZW customer as it evolved over last 12 years. CDMA vs GSM, to my thinking was Sony Beta Max vs VHS (tapes, kids, those things that preceded CD's?), far superior technology.
Too, VVZW's towers up here in Colorado gave me better signals than AT&T's GSM numerous tests revealed. Plus, the Palm OS on the Kyocera 7135 just did stuff I liked and had a HUGE software smorgasboard.
THEN, the 400mhz 8525 pushed me over the edge for a Cingular GSM (Europe AND USA on one "smartphone," Imagine that??!!) 30 day trial. I stayed and was VERY impressed with the warranty response from Cingular (see thread "Sweet 8525 croaked").
Still some WM 5.0 bugs and several "head up & welded" WinMob apps, but the performance is certainly in the TyTN Hermes (8525) and I'm now a DarkSide prosletizer.
Actually, the Cingular GSM is superior in coverage and signal strenghth in the mountains where I live and operate. That was a pleasant surprise.
Verizon pards will do well to get the device, I think.
PP
but all I can do is switch. I've called 8 million times and thy all read from a prepared script. Letter was received 12/22 and cut off is 12/27. I've sent e mails to Verizon and news services but no one cares.
Did you tether to a laptop? Have you visited the Verizon forums at howardforums.com? I know there have been a few people that have been unfairly terminated or charged for their "unlimited" plan...
