Remember a time when the TV remote control was once the tool of luxury? Now imagine in the same way, using your Pocket PC to control your home's security, climate, lighting, audio, video, irrigation and messaging all from the palm of your hands. No more getting out of that warm bed or comfortable couch to make adjustments!
And if your excitement about the UMPC has run thin, well maybe HomeLogic has a solution that will put both your UMPC and Pocket PC to great use. TalkAboutCEDIA.com reports seeing HomeLogic's OneHome software in action on Samsung's Q1 UMPC and the Motorola Q.
Before CEDIA opened, I got a sneak preview of the new developments. What first caught my eye was the Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) sitting on the countertop. I recently reported that Exceptional Innovation would be showing its Lifeware software running on a UMPC at CEDIA. Seems HomeLogic has also taken a liking to the 7-inch touchscreen that runs Windows XP tablet edition. While the $1,000ish device has questionable appeal for other applications, it makes perfectly good sense for home control, says HomeLogic's Joe Lautner. "I wish it had a docking station, though," he says.
Running HomeLogic's OneHome software, the UMPC can do anything that HomeLogic's own touchscreens can do—and more, of course, because it's a full-blown PC.
