Use your Pocket PC as a card reader without ActiveSync

RenoBob asks:

"I'm looking for an application for the 8125 that uses the USB connection as a passthrough to the sd card without having Activesync installed. It uses the SD card like a Jumpdrive."

Excellent question. There are just times where you want to plug your Pocket PC in and not have to work about the hassle of ActiveSync when you just want to read and write to your card. Also it'd be great to use your Pocket PC as a removable drive when you are at your friend's/client's house.

Softick offers Softick Card Export II for Windows Mobile devices. Here are the features:
  • Card Export II PPC emulates industry standard USB Mass Storage device on Windows Mobile or Pocket PC handhelds.
  • Quickly install applications to the storage cards or file stores
  • Fast audio and video content transfer to the cards. Transfer your MP3 files to the cards using Windows Explorer or your favorite file manager.
  • Use flash card as a floppy for any data
  • Fast backup and restore of your card content
  • Perform storage cards maintenance. Format your flash cards, undelete files and check filesystem integrity using desktop operation system utilities from your desktop PC or Mac.
  • Supports multicard configuration
  • Supports read/write and read only modes.
Specifications:
  • Card Export II requirements:
  • Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (Windows CE 4.2) or Windows Mobile 2005
  • Works with Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/ME on desktop, Windows 98, Mac OS X 10.3 or better, Linux and FreeBSD
  • USB connection
  • Supported CPU: Intel XScale PXA 25x, Intel XScale PXA 26x, Intel XScale PXA 27x, Texas Instruments OMAP Platform, Samsung S3C2410 and Samsung S3C2440 processors
