Wireless carriers - Keeping your options open

Ever heard of "My Circle"? Or how about Unicel, Cricket or MetroPCS? There's something valuable to note here, and it's a question of whether or not you're getting your money's worth from your mobile wireless carrier. CNET has run an interesting article pointing out the fact that the big boys like Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile (I'll just call them the Big Four) are indeed household names but don't necessarily offer the best plans for you. All too often consumers overlook regional carriers that can be just as competitive or even better than the Big Four.

Ok, sure...regional carriers are mostly just that - "regional", which implies only so much coverage across the states. But did you know that a handful of regional carriers offer unlimited AND contract-free rates? Another great feature that some regional carriers offer is a similar concept to Alltel's "My Circle". Rather than having only mobile-to-mobile capabilities, My Circle allows the customer to add 10 numbers to the plan regardless of who they're subscribed to and callling them won't eat up your minutes. Now that's service. If the minutes aren't your concern, but having hi-speed is, you may be surprised as to what your regional carrier has to offer. There are companies that offer fast speeds competitive to the Big Four.

All in all, for those willing to do a little more research may find themselves a little happier and no longer a slave to limited minutes and pricey rates.

Very interesting read -- now if I could just make enough time in my schedule to go out there and learn about the best ones... any recommendations for a west coaster!?
