Looks like the new AvantGo version 6.2 doesn't need/want to sync with ActiveSync 4.1 due to quality sync performance of the AvantGo service. Synchronization is now initiated from the AvantGo client. Whatever speeds up AvantGo's sync time is fine by us.
Question:
Why can't I sync using ActiveSync with the new AvantGo version for Pocket PC?
Answer:
Beginning with AvantGo version 6.2, AvantGo synchronization is initiated from the AvantGo client. It is no longer possible to synchronize AvantGo using Active Sync. This change is necessary in order to maintain quality sync performance of the AvantGo service.
Why was the change made?
Active Sync 4.X, when paired with a Windows Mobile 5 device, triggers an ActiveSync synchronization about every five minutes. As the number of Windows Mobile 5 devices grow on the service, the volume of devices syncing this frequently results in slower syncs and other sync related problems. The modification to require user-initiated syncs from Windows Mobile users will help maintain quality service levels for all AvantGo subscribers.
Why do I still see AvantGo Connect as an "Information Type" in Active Sync?
For now, we've kept AvantGo Connect in Active Sync in order to provide instructions for synchronization. Right click AvantGo Connect and select "Settings" for instructions.
Can I still use my desktop Internet connection to sync?
Yes, if your device is connected to your Internet connected PC, AvantGo will use the desktop connection to sync.
