Not quite Pocket PC but still interesting. Yesterday, Sony announced expected losses of 817 million dollars for the current fiscal year. for the costs of firing up PS3. Much like Microsoft Xbox, the PS3 will be selling below cost in order to begin mass distribution and preposition for big sales during the 2006 holiday season.
Measured by market share, Sony is the #1 manufacturer of home game consoles in the world with well over 100M in sales for both the PS and the PS2.
The PS3 marks Sony's 7th generation video game release, with a designed system fundamentally different from previous consoles. This generation is also known as the "HD era".
If you're asking for my $.02, I'm not exactly sure how they plan on recouping that monstrous loss. But if I had to take a guess, I'd say what connotized the biggest selling point of the PS3 and the 7th generation of consoles -- HD games!
