There’s word that HP, without much fanfare, has updated the iPAQ hx2000 series with more ROM…woohoo! This was first confirmed by a Pocket PC Thoughts reader, but I did a little research myself and found out more than just confirming that the hx2190, hx2490, and hx2495 has 192MB ROM and 64MB RAM. There’s a significant detail that was missed about the hx2790...Drum roll please!... The HP UK site shows the specs on the hx2790 to have 320MB ROM!
Back in September 2005, HP discontinued their old hx2000 series in favour of a new one based on Windows Mobile 5.0. Each model number was appropriately updated from hx2110, hx2410, and hx2750 to hx2190, hx2490, and hx2790 respectively. While the hx2790 was lucky enough to receive a wealthy memory configuration of 64MB RAM and 192MB ROM, the hx2190 and hx2490 had to settle for a lesser offering of 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM.
However, HP has silently changed that as their site now shows a new hx2190 and hx2490, each with 64MB RAM and 192MB ROM. Pocket PC Thoughts reader, Kamokazi, has also confirmed this with a post in our forums verifying that the new 192MB ROM-equipped hx2000 series is now available at CompUSA.
