The hx4700 goes way of the Dodo with HP's latest announcement that the company's first VGA Pocket PC is finally extinct. Sure we've heard this before, but we're not sure what HP's plans are next. All we know is that if they don't shell out a VGA Pocket PC with a WORKING and STABLE version of Windows Mobile 5.0 (did we forget to mention one with PERFORMANCE?), then we might have to take our business elsewhere.
Thanks hx4700, you have many loyal users out there, hopefully you'll come back as a reincarnation of an even better device!
Too bad! It's the best PDA I had in the last 5 years, after the 5350. It's a hell of a good machine after three replacements of the same model due to some little defects but to which HP took care right of way, probably because it was one of the first to come out of the factory.
As a proud owner myself, I am sad to see HP abandon what I considered to be their "top of the line" pure pocket pc. But the trend is going to converginet devices it seems (I even recently purchased a HTC 6700 to replace my blackberry... expect a review soon). Bu despite having a spanking new WM5 devic, its not going to replace my 4700 outright... the 4700's just too much of a powerhourse to die that easily
Unfortunetly, these things are controlled by market forces, and its prettly clear that blackberry/treo is pushing the trend away from "straight" ppc's ... that and the recent unveiling of UMPC's..oh well, hopefully there will always be a few die hard hold outs
Yeah... who could beat having VGA resolution with a super powerful 624MHz proc, all in the palm of your hand? Although the mouse option was a bit awkward, the screen and performance is still something that is still hard to beat. Have you seen the Matrix preview run on that thing via TCPMP? It almost makes me want to pee in my pants because its that good.
I love the massive screen size and I think that's where the line is drawn with convergence. It might just be me, but I don't want to bring up a phone the size of the hx4700 to my ear. As much as I try, I can never be as cool as Zack Morris.
