As an avid Mac fan, I can’t get enough of its cross-platform capability. If you haven’t heard already, Apple revealed the new software coined “Boot Camp” as a download that will allow users to run MS Windows XP on Intel-based Mac computers [that is, if you have the Windows XP installation disc handy]. The cool thing about Boot Camp is that it will give you the ability to choose which OS to use with each start-up. Take note that the current version of Boot Camp is only in beta form but should be available with the next Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard.” August is the month to keep a look out for the final version of Boot Camp with Leopard but specifics are yet to be determined.
Funny how Apple had previously stood their ground against supporting Windows, but now it looks like hackers have to come up with something else to do since there’s an easier and better way to get Windows running.
Just to give you an idea of the kind of demand was out there for something like Boot Camp, Apple shares jumped up about 8% in midday trading… nice move Apple.
I can only imagine what Boot Camp will do for the PC user sitting on the fence and salivating over sleek Mac designs. To all the closet Mac fans… you can come out now.
something like this came around about 4 years ago... it failed miserably if I remember correctly. I do hope it succeeds this time... if this thing is not an imitation but a true stand-alone OS, then it will welcome a slew of viruses and problems for Macdow users. approach it with caution...
