i-mate has released a ROM upgrade with Push Email for their JASJAR model (aka HTC Universal). This is one of more upgrades to come for i-mate’s Window Mobile 5.0 devices…that’s good news. The guys over at msmobiles have also pointed out that HTC, however, has not been able to get full A2DP support running…and if that’s important to you, don’t expect to find it in HTC devices yet.
You can download the ROM upgrade here or find it at club i-mate under the upgrades link.
I tried to install this upgrade to my JasJar device only to have it fail miserably! I now can get it to initiate the recovery tool only to have it crash immediately and submit an error report to windows. When I try to hard reset by holding the soft keys as described in the the recovery tool and on multiple forums... It asks me to hit 0 but when I do it reverts back to my problem screen. It says usb at the top when plugged in, and v1.00 at the bottom. and it says Serial at the top and v1.00 when unplugged! please save me as it is only half paid for, and I am unable to get it to restart now! what do I do, who do I contact! I bought this from a reliable friend and everything has worked perfectly up till this! Is there a God?!?!?!?
Whoa whoa whoa, take a deep breath 96inspire! I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to you, but I am sure that you can find a way out! This same thinig actually happened to me a few weeks back when updating an i-mate JAM, but after a few tries it worked out just fine. The screen that you are seeing (the USB and Serial) is called the bootloader. It is a small program integrated on the device that allows for ROM software to be added on to your device.
But lets cut to the chase. This is what I recommend doing:
With the JasJar fully charged, plug the device in the PC running ActiveSync (if possible try a new PC). Once you do this, open up the rom updater as if you are updating like normal and walk through the steps.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you get an error message, and what error you are recieving so I can see what is happening. I want to help a fellow Pocket PC Addict out and I'm sure others want to as well!
I found a link in a forum somewheres that instructed that if this happens, you must plug the usb cable into the pc directly, not into any hubs or connecting hardware... Who'd have known...;-} So, problem solved, and ROM installed... Sorry for freaking out for nothing. Just scared me when I've only half paid for this expensive of a device...! Once it was directly plugged in, It recognized the device immediately, and completed install... Whether or not the Update has been beneficial has yet to be seen. I haven't re-installed sim yet, but I will this weekend. I will follow up with any news as so the efficiency of it and weigh in on any benefits... Thanks again!
