The Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade is currently available for the HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PC. The upgrade kit for the hx4700 will be available in Spring 2006.
Boooo… purchasing the WM 5.0 upgrade for the iPAQ hx4700 will have to wait. The US HP website states that the upgrade will be available in “Spring 2006”… pretty vague, don’t you think?

This info in this posting is yet another reminder of why NOT to upgrade to WM5. As an hx4705 owner, yes I'm curious, but after hearing about so many issues with this release, I think I'll just pass.
For me, there is nothing (AFAIK) about WM5 that seems to be a "must have" or missing in WM2003. I am also afraid this release will slow down my device performance.
Also, the fact that this release has been delayed (for 4700 owners) for so long is NOT a good indication. I realize there was some driver incompatibility, but you would think a fix could be implemented sooner. Or is this release just too problematic for the hx4705? Not sure who to believe on this one.
However, I will wait for other owners of hx4705 to bite the bullet and upgrade, and hopefully post their experiences, before even I'd even re-consider.
