HP has definitely been the tortoise in the race of 3G implementation and things just got even slower. It has been confirmed that HP does not plan to have any 3G support for its smartphones during 2006 for reasons that “3G is still only occupying 3% of the world pie” and that it is “a nascent market”. Although 3G technology would apply to TV and video streaming, the “viability of such an application” is in question for HP due to screen specifications. Rather than integrating 3G into smartphones, HP confirms that they plan to integrate 3G support in downsized notebooks as they focus on notebook mobility.
I guess we'll just have to see if the tortoise really beats the hare in this one.
