The BBC has an interesting article today Gadgets create a throwaway nation which describes how peer pressure is leading 50% of 16 - 34 year olds in the UK to simply get rid gadgets such as mobile phones, DVD players, Pocket PCs? in order to upgrade to the latest and greatest devices. "The UK may be a nation of gadget lovers but there is a growing throwaway culture, a survey has found.
Young people in particular are keen to update their gadgets every couple of years, suggested the study commissioned by insurance firm Directline.com"
I average a new PPC every year, thus I guess I'm part of the problem So tell me, are you one of these people who upgrades your gadgets every 3 years or less? What do you do with the old gadgets once you are done?
Usually what I do when I upgrade, though, is hand my old unit off to somebody who is more technologically challenged.
This is pretty much everybody around me, so I always have a taker.
I'd hate to see these things going in the dumpster, but I guess sitting on my fiance's chest of drawers collecting dust isn't much better.
If I can just get her to join the cause.

3 years? I'm lucky if I can struggle through two years to upgrade Even that feels like a life time. For example my cell phone.. when I picked it up, it cost me $250 (samsung a460) .. now its a free phone and every other person has one. Thus, it is Definetly time to upgrade.. I mean, I can't go around with soemthing everyones got can I?
My name is James Kelly and I am techno-snob

I am probably worse than anyone else. I don't like throwing out any old tech stuff at all! I still have an old 286 in my attic because I did part of my Masters thesis on it and cannot bear to part with the machine. However, I do not have any 5 1/4 disks to copy off the work either.
