Very new to my little toy. A pocket PC from UT starcom. PPC6700.
Odd little question. Theres a certain site Id like to access on my browser. I SHOULD be able to, as I can most other sites. Im sure its something Im doing wrong to access it myself.
There are usually a couple of main reasons why you cannot access a site using WM's built-in IE browser. One is simple and has to do with how the browser identifies itself to web sites. Apps such as TogglePIE and PIE Plus address this issue by letting you set this self-identification tag to something other than its default setting (generally called spoofing as another browser).
The other main reason is that some sites require support for ActiveX, Java, and Flash plug-ins and controls, things which the WM version of IE simply does not support. You may want to test out the trial versions of a couple of replacement browsers, specifically Opera and NetFront. Both support security and control functions unavailable in the WM built-in browser. There is also the Minimo project that is aiming to bring the Firefox experience to mobile platforms, but that is still in beta and the browser, while quite functional, still needs some work. It is, however, free where Opera and NetFront are both commercial apps. If you have a Java MIDlet manager you could try the free Opera Mini, which has just had a new version released. Any of these might give the supported scripting the problem site might be requiring in order to load.
Thank you so much for your help. My lack of response has not been for unappreciation. Rather, Ive been looking up various mobile browsers to see just what they are. As I say, Im very new to this sort of thing, and have no real inclination as to how they work!
So.. the questions continue..
I decided Opera Mini looked like the best bet for my phone. So I checked out the handy dandy little site.. and tried to download for my PC. Figuring the transferring of files to my phone would be easier for a rather incapable specimen like myself.
Theres no identification for my phone. (UTstarcom Pocket PC) So. Plan B. Download on the actual phone.
I think that went well. I do believe it downloaded alright. There seem to be program files on the phone that weren't there before. But when I click on them, it tells me theres 'no application associated with... please run application first ...'
Alright.. I get that. So.. where do I find the application? Opera's website suggested a few areas, Ive looked, and not found that jaunty little 'O' anywhere.
Anyone willing to take on this technically challenged gal? Im willing to try.. Im just.. not that inclined. *Grins*
*Update*
I gave up on Opera.. and tried Minimo.. with much success. Thankyou so much for your help!
