Noobie Questions Not Just For Noobs

Ok in my effort to try to uncluster this forum I think it would be a great idea for anyone who might have an easy to answer question to post it here so that if someone else has the same question they can refer back to a sticky that will be there.

Ok this is not just for noobs this is for any one of the following but not limited too.

If you have a question that you think it might be easy to solve but can't figure it out, post it here.

If you have a question that you have had answered before but never got it to work, post it here.

If you have a question that you think someone else might have or in the future might have, post it here.

If you have a question you want me to personally look at, I am subscribed to this thread, post it here.

Thank You for taking the time to look over this post and please feel free to ask anything you want.

ok i have not forgot about you, these devices are more complicated than most would first asume,
ok what i think your asking is how to play embeded videos like youtube and myspace. its really not that easy of a question to answer mostly because i dont brows youtube and what have you. So for me know need to worry about it.

You first posted about a java manager and im thinking your thinking that java on a ppc is the same as java on a pc and its not. Ok java on your ppc manages midlets and other java apps. like games like on regular cell phones. Ok moving onto your question this is going to leave you hagging as I will need to install programs check them out and get back to you. One option is Hub dog not sure what it is exactly I think it uses a proxy server to show you a mobile version of youtube. The other option is using a browser that will make your ppc seem like its a reg. pc using Opera should make them efective. Like I said I will have to get back to you.
thanx
nate

yes its normal, unlike a palm device an htc will not wake up.
The reason i believe is because it is a pocket pc unlike a palm device that used a palm os. When pocket pc's started with 2003 ce they were never ment to restart, the reason being is you lost all your data so there solution was to have a back up battery. You can still see this even in wm6 the device is still not ment to loose battery power as it affects your ram and cmos. You can note this by removing the battery and you will loose your time settings. They did start a function called softresetting which will allow the device to reset without loosing time and other data.

May I ask why you would want to turn your device off?

This is a copy and paste for Youtube video on PPC
YouTube Pocket

1. Installing the Player
In order to use YouTube Pocket you will first need to install The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP). If you already have zbop's FlashVideoBundle installed youcan skip to step 3, if not select your version of player below.
If you have a touchscreen device (Windows Mobile Pro) please download this player:
Pocket PC/WM Pro Player
If you have a non-touchscreen device (Smartphone) please download this player:
Smartphone Player
2. Installing the Plugins
Next you must install the Flash plugins for TCPMP. Make sure you install the plugin in the same place as the player (Device or Storage Card).
TCPMP FLV Plugin (PDA & Smartphone)
3. Setting the proper Protocols
Whew, the hard part is now over, lets get to the setting up! First open TCPMP and press 'Options -> Settings'. From the screen that brings you to press 'Select Page -> File Associations'. On the bottom of this page you will see both 'Flash Video' and 'MMS Protocol', make sure both of them are checked. If you don't see both of these settings, you may need a soft reset. Once they are both checked, keep the settings open and move onto step 4.
4. Setting the Buffering
The buffering could make or break your YouTube Pocket experiance, so let's make sure you set it properly. While still in the settings page click 'Select Page -> Buffering'. here you will see some buffering options, you want them to be as listed below:
Normal buffer size: 1148KB
Preload at underrun: 5%
Preload for audio: 64KB
The buffering settings above should work for most users. If you still experiance lag with these settings you may want to try to kick the 'Normal buffer size' down to 800KB and see if anything gets better. It may take a little work to get the right settings, but once you do, you'll be glad you took the time.
5. Auto-Play (Optional)
If you are anything like me you'll probably want your video to play automatically after you click it, if that's the case, this is for you! While still in your settings screen press 'Select page -> Player'. Here you will see options for both 'Play at open' and 'Play at open in fullscreen'. Check the box next to the one you are interested and you are all set.

6. Removing Lag
Click 'Select Page -> Advanced' and set 'Manual A/V offset +/-' to '-400'. This should get rid of any lip-sync effect. 7. Enjoy YouTube Pocket
Ummm... if you need an explanation for this step you may not be ready for the Incredible Edible Internet. O.o

Opera 8.65, how do i make TCMD my default? I'm going to reinstall and try again, but another frustration i've been having is how slow the browsers are, the fastest one is IE, sometimes opera or picsel says that the memory is full or something. Thanks for the help Nate, very much appreciated.

Just some more things to annoy you (sorry)
1. Do you know how to speed up the 8525? Performance wise?
2. How to use Deepfish... because the touch screen isn't working, and it won't let me log into my gmail or anything?
3. Do you recommend SPB Pocket Plus/SPB Mobile Shell?
Thats all i could think of at the moment. Any feedback on any of those would be helpful.

*Edit*
No luck on reinstalling opera
Biggest n00b ever, didn't know there was a youtube mobile, but picsel still says page could not be displayed, opera works now!
Opera plays through streaming media like IE... I need to switch because the quality is super poor

How to remove "diablegprsautoconnect"?

First Hi to everybody on this forum, I just joined.
I have a question to nateshuntsvegas. For avoiding unwanted GPRS connection you posted a little tool/hack named diablegprsautoconnect. I put the cab.file into the program folder of my HTC Touch and opened it. But I cannot find any trace of a program, nor anything happened on the today screen. Whereto has it disappeared, what does it actually do and how can I uninstal it again?
I found in the meantime a little program which works fine for that purpose, easy to use (News
I would like to remove this "diablegprsautoconnect" since I have the feeling that after the installation my ppc runs slower, but it does not show up in the "Program remove folder" nor in the corresponding activesync-folder.
Thanks for any help.

first of all cabs. install them selves you dont have to put it into the program file, as you have not installed it, it will not be in the remove programs file.

Where did you get the program from as the one I have here on the forum is the same you have a link too on modaco.

Thank you Nate for your quick answer. In the meantime I am not so worried any more about the hidden "diablegprsautoconnect". That is bthw the actual name of the cab file. I downloaded it from your post "useful hacks" or so, which I cannot find any more now (I did not store it).
The MoDaCo program I got from his own web page.
About the installing of cab files: I know that they are selfinstaling (though I wish I had used the "cabinstaller" tool).
I just copied it with activesync to the ppc (WM 6) and tab it there, as I do with all cab files. It usually works well.

PDF Related Question

Hi, I wanted to finally start reading some ebooks now that i have a ppc that can view them. It came with clearvue pdf, and i really like it, but there is a feature it is lacking that i find very annoying. i cannot drag the screen to scroll, i have to tap the sidebar to scroll.

It came with version 2.42.506

I checked the site for it, and it said the latest is 5.1. ($4.95 to upgrade). not that expensive for me, but i was worrying if i pay to upgrade, and it doesnt fix anything of importance to me.

while typing this, i just realized, this is what demos were for. . so i will be trying it out, but anyways, i was wondering if there are any other pdf viewers that are more reliable and has the features i like. i have adobe reader 2.0 but i find it to be awkwardly blurry on my screen. readable, scroll by dragging the screen, but blurry.

Also, i have an ebook that is all pictures..but it is pictures of text. clearvue does NOT want to open it, i didnt try it in adobe reader while typing this.

There are some time consuming options to convert to text (time consuming to edit the imperfections of the translated text), and i was hoping i didnt have to resort to it.

Very newb questions here. From my minimal reading so far about Windows Mobile, it seems that Opera is the browser of choice.

1) Is it worth it/easier to use over IE?
2) Free?
3) It seems like it solves the Youtube poblem - true?
4) What are the major differences between IE and Opera
Thanks.
