I have an 8125 and a huge contacts file from work. It takes me forever to get a contact and I thought it would be better if my file was on an SD card. I can copy the PIM file there, but cannot delete it off the main memory (although I can change the filename and even the file extension). Can anyone help me get my contacts on the SD card or speed up my access to the contacts?
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict corvette0488! I'm a bit confused at what you are doing. What PIM file are you copying over? Let me know and I can help you further...

Well, I want my contacts on my SD card. I understood from my research that outlook type info (contacts etc) are held in a file called PIM. So I tried copying that over to my SD card which worked fine, but I don't know that it accomplished what I wanted. Forget my probable foibles.. my main desire is to get contacts on my SD card so they don't take up so much room on my device. It seems like there is so little room on the device. Which brings me to another question...
I loaded Adobe, but it wouldn't load on my SD card. Loads fine on the device. Do programs like that HAVE to reside on the device to work? I also am trying to load ADDRESS BOOK and SPB Pocket Plus. SPB requires loading on the device. ADDRESS BOOK loaded on the SD, but then created a PIM INDEX that is 50% of the size of the other PIM file, so now instead of 5MB of contacts, I -- in effect -- have 7.5MB. It seems like the unit bogs down and has delayed reactions to commands, so I figured it was because of the memory. I'm just trying to keep as much off the device as possible, but things don't seem to be cooperating.
Sorry this got so long. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated.
Gotcha... you're talking about PIM.vol. Unfortunately there is no way to get your Pocket PC to talk with a PIM.vol file that is outside of the Main Memory... I wish it could be done as well but hopefully that will be fixed in another Windows Mobile release. However, I can understand why they don't allow the file to be stored on a memory card because the contacts and calendar and whatnot is so closely tied to the system and changes could make it unstable...
As for your other problem, some programs are not designed to work directly off the card. That's not to say that there are many programs out there that HAVE to stay in main memory, unfortunately it's just the ones that you have dealt with.
I'd recommend moving everything else that you can onto your memory card, pictures, attachments, etc. and get a memory management programs like MemMaid, it allows you to clean out your "temp" files as well as giving you the option to assign your IE cache to the memory card.
