Hi. I just ordered a new Pocket PC to replace my ancient first generation iPaq. I chose the Dell Axim x51v for the decent amount of memory, awesome expansion options, the fast processor, wireless, and 3d accelerator. Found a good deal for one on E-Bay, and got the bluetooth keyboard too.
I have a few questions regarding software for this particular model. This purchase is mainly for me and my wife to have another method to stay in contact other than our cell phones and for me to play some games when I am on the road, as my job requires me to travel a lot and I stay in hotels often. I've already got Morphgear and PocketNester, as well as some games from CrimsonFire Entertainment.
I'm looking for some good software for the interface. First off, when I close programs I want them to close, not hide in the background. I'm also needing decent IM software that will work with Yahoo's Messenger network, and a good wireless network utility that will allow me to switch networks with ease. Finally, just any recommended program I'll try out as well.
Welcome to Pocket PC Addict leathco! I'm glad you've upgraded to a wonderful device and I'm sure you will fall in love with it quickly if you haven't already. These are my picks (I'm sure there are others that will do the job as well), but here is what you need to get going:
Thanks for the reply man. I pulled down a copy of most of the software you mentioned, whenever my new PPC arrives I'll load it all up and see what I like.
I also found MiniStumbler, if it's anything like NetStumbler I'll be in love, as I originally said I travel a whole lot and it'd be great just to let it run and pick up the hotspots. I also found that I can run Quake 1 and 2, and possibly 3 not far behind (running on the model behind mine at 20 FPS, so eventually maybe they'll get past the x50v and make it run on x51v too.)
Yeah MiniStumbler is great... I can't believe I didn't mention that (sorry NetStumbler guys). If you haven't downloaded it already you can find it in the downloads section as well.
