Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 842242 is pointing to some 50 applications that "seem to stop working after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 ". "SUMMARY
After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), some programs may seem not to work. By default, Windows Firewall is enabled and blocks unsolicited connections to your computer. This article discusses how to make an exception and enable a program to run by adding it to the list of exceptions. This procedure permits the program to work as it did before the service pack was installed. "
The big ones on my list: Visual Studio, FTP servers and Arcserve...hmmm...I might just pass on this altogether. I've had enough headaches for one week.
Ohh, I LOVE this one! The title says it all:

I have been using SRP 2 for some time and think the security methodology is completely wrong... home users should have a router/firewall combo unit in their home networks and control ports at that location.. corporate systems should have firewalls on their network... traveling users should have a local firewall, installed and monitored by IT not the user.
According to the list of 50 programs, Symantec is listed, but according to Symantec web site Liveupdate if run has a fix for the problem. I will let you know as soon as I get SP2.

I have both and to date Live Update does not solve the problem.

Can you please tell me what problems you are having with Symantec Anti Virus 2004? Thanks.
it is not unliveable however, the security agent for XP SRP 2 can not check status on NAV 9.0 Corporate Edition (the latest release), so every time you boot it gives a a security warning.
That is very interesting, since that is the exact error that Symantec has said they have fixed. Go to there page and see what they said. I am sure you are probaly correct and Symantec has made a Boo Boo!
NAV runs fine under SP2- just change the security settings in SP2 to not monitor the anti- virus.

I've been running SP2 since RC1 and I have seen no program problems on the 5 PCs I've installed it on.

sure that is a work around... however, it is interesting that they do not play well together since Symantec was supposed to be in the test group. I was looking at plain vanilla installs for large roll outs.
I'll just live with my completely stock XP load, it runs great and I haven't had any problems with any computer doing it. I've got a great firewall and virus checker, and if anything ever dies I've got reinstalling down to a science
