I'm experiencing something great but confusing about the way Google finds good search results and thought I'd post here to see if some expert can shed some light on it.
My blog has only been up about 3 weeks and the last week I'm noticing that a lot of the HTTP referrals are coming from Google searches. When I click on the Google search referral link I can see what they were searching for when they found (and clicked) on my link. This led me to experiment a little in trying to understand how they are ranking the links. What I have determined is that any search term that is slightly technical (and thus a little more uncommon) that is a major theme to one of the articles I've posted on the blog will turn up very high in the Google returned searches. Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, I'm quite happy about that obviously but I really don't understand how that can be. How can a little tiny brand new web site be returning high on the Google ranking? A couple of searches I tried with a technical phrase in the title of one of my articles returned jkontherun as the very first result!
Anybody able to explain this to me? I've been trying to get PPC Tools to show up higher in the search rankings with little effect.

Oh, by the way James, Google's search scheme is highly guarded. Some of the speculation is that sites built with PHP (i.e. tools, PPCA) are ranked lower due to spider difficulties in traversing links, etc, slower load speeds, etc
Yes, it's a big secret but it's interesting to compare notes. I've heard that about PHP but I don't think that's it. For example, if you run your PocketPC search you do get PPCA on the front page. Run Pocket PC, and you get totally different sites, many of them PHP on the front page.
There is just no way that JKOTR should be showing up so high. Again, I'm not complaining, far from it, but PPCT has thousands of members and good daily traffic, thousands of posts and subjects, and yet it always shows very low.
It's just interesting to find it. An experiment I've been running is to compare Google searches with Kartoo. JKOTR shows up high on many of those, too. Makes me wonder if Kartoo is looking at Google as part of the search. :?
