GPS cost money?

I'm getting my 8925 sometime within the next week... I’m ecstatic. Do I have to have the internet service data plan to use the GPS feature? Do you have to pay for the GPS feature at all or is it just a feature that comes with the phone? Thanks

it comes with the phone.. you can pay for the service using AT&T telenav.. or you can get a GPS program and install it on your phone with the maps on a large micro-SD card. i currently use iGuidance on my Tilt.. and it works great. why pay.. when you can use it for free?

The GPS feature is free. That means you can connect to the GPS satellites and triangulate your positions for free.

However, that data is useless unless you have a program that can interpret these data and show your location on a map. Most of these are commercialized so they are not free. These include TomTom, CoPilot and Garmin.

Then there are the free versions like Google Maps, Live Search and Navizon. While these are free, they require that you have an active internet connection while running these programs to connect to their servers to download the maps on the go.

Hopefully that clears things up.

Did you pay for it, or were you able to get it from a bit torrent?

I ask, cause I have looked for it on iso, and cant seem to get it to work after I downloaded it.

Thanks.

Has anyone used Garmin Mobile XT on their AT&T 8925? A guy in the AT&T store told my that it won't work because AT&T/HTC has it locked out on the phone and cracking it will void the warranty? Thanks for the help.

I downloaded google maps for WM6 which was free. You still have to have the data package.
