Hey everyone thanks in advance for the help. I tried doing a search on this and didn't come up with anything. I just got a replacement 8525 under warranty with ATT as my first one crapped out. The refurb one is all well and good except that the symbols on the keyboard buttons do not correspond with what appears on the screen! For example, if I attempt to enter an ! (W on my keyboard) an @ shows up.
here take this and install it on your device its a cab. patch should do the trick.

Also I can now unlock the GPS chip in the 8925 and install GPS software with maps as well
