8525 Won't Dial Out

I have a Cingular 8525, and all of a sudden like 2 days ago, it stopped letting me dial out on it. Whenever I try to make a call it says "dialing..." and then immediately says "call ended"

The weird thing is I can still text message and RECEIVE calls I just can't make them. Restarting the phone doesn't help either, and every once in a while it will let me make a call, but it is rare.

Anyone know whats up??

Thanks!

Not sure what's causing this, but I suggest you try the SIM card in another phone. If it works there, then put it back in your pda.

like linley said it might be your sim card, but if not i would try updating your rom.

Since AT$T has released a new rom upgrade with radio upgrade you may notice that you have more dropped calls or the afore mentioned problem. Some ppl dont relize when a service provider releases a rom update that their older rom nolonger suports some uses. An example would be with the 8525s first rom in my area it had Edge support 2.5g. But once they had released the new rom a few months later my phone reverted back to Gprs or 2.0g. So it no longer suported 2.5g I then had to upgrade the rom through HTC america support. You can do the same thing now and it will update your rom to wm6. I would suggest doing this first and you can find the new rom here.

The SIM card does in fact work with another phone, so I will try the memory solution I guess.

My phone has wm5, is that ROM upgrade still ok?

did you check your setting to make sure outgoing calls are not restricted?

Go to Settings>Phone select Services tab on bottom of screen then select Call Barring and click on Get Settings. Make sure both setting are set to Off.

bringing this one back from the dead for an additional question about ROM updating...

Every time I try and run the ROM installation package mentioned above, it disconnects my phone because it powers down from active sync RIGHT when I hit update, then it gives me an error. It happens every time I try. I don't have my SIM card in the phone, but I don't see why thats a problem.

In the settings I have all the power-down options turned off. Not sure why this is happening.

Thanks!

Ok make sure you have the rom update on your c drive I put mine on the desktop. Also go to activesync and delete your partnership, now when you activesync your device it will ask you to create a partnership or whatever just hit cancel, cancel, next... now your a guest. From this point make sure nothing on the device is running except activesync by going to setting, memory, running programs.

Now run the ruu or setup exe. and it will start the process of updating. It first checks the device, then it powers down and goes into bootloader state the tri-color screen. From there it should go white then give you a progress bar. It will lag a little in some places dont worry 20 minutes is normal for an upgrade.

Also make sure you follow all the directions in the update like making sure your battery is at atleast 50% and makesure if you have a laptop that you have disabled hibernate. Also a laptop or a UPS is a must if this process gets interuped by a power outage or being unpluged you will now have a $300 brick!!!

Also make sure you using XP and not Vista these are all noob mistakes that can destroy your device.
