I loaded the upgrade last night. I think its great. The 3 key features I was most anticipating were: Windows Update, Storage Card Encryption, and Mobile Outlook being HTML enabled. Now with Outlook being HTML enabled and Gmail going IMAP, it will be a rare occasion when I have to recheck my Gmail from a computer to view a message in its entirety. And an FYI: That ROM upgrade is only available through February 08 then it'll be removed from the site, so if you are on the fence about upgrading, you may want to download the ROM at the very least incase you change your mind later on.
Ok - total newb question. When I go to the HTC site to update to WM6, it talks about backing up your current settings.I cant figure out how to do this. Do I need some other software? If I dont back up, will I loose my contacts and that it?
You need to download PIM Backup 2.5 dont have a link available right now but run it and it will back up everything but your software

I am having some trouble getting the update on my device. When it gets to the screen where it shows progress of the update, my active sync shuts down, my device goes dark and it get a connection error from the update utility. the device restarts fine, but I have not been able to gain any progress on updateing the ROM. Any suggestions?

Did you set your 8525 to where it will not shut itself down after so long? Just an idea.

Ok try putting the phone into bootloader mode by pressing the ok button on the left side the power button on the right and softrest making sure to keep the first two buttons held down while softresting.
This will give you a tri colored screen and then connect the phone and try running the update. Please note that you will not active sync your device in this mod.

I put a few questions about this on other threads but they got buried and I can't find them...and nate your inbox is full so i couldnt PM you.
With the 8525 wifi hack working since usb connection does not with wm5, will that hack no longer work with wm6? And with this wm6 upgrade, will the usb connection (tethering) now work?
Also, if custom wm6's from xda or wherever are better, would i void my warranty by upgrading to them? Because I am looking to turn in my phone and replace it because it has had so many problems in the past and currently my sound doesnt work for videos or alarms (yes i know how to turn the volume on and go to notifications and make sure its checked on). Thanks...I think i had more questions but ill take it slow.

Ok the hack should work contact me as I would like a copy of the hack, Im using the usb teathering right now its a little slow here as we only have edge.
Yes it will void you warranty but all you have to do is reflash the rom back to the oem rom, and they will be non the wiser.
Have you tried maybe core player or another video program as oposed to wmp? Also try wm6 and see if this solves the issue, may have been a bad plug-in.

So if I put on someones personal wm6 I would void my guarantee...but would I void it if i used HTC's wm6? And on their site it says theres no rolling back to wm5.
And I don't think its windows media player I am using...I dont get sound when i play videos from cingular video, it has like an onsite plugin for playing videos I believe, plays them fine just no sound. WM6 should solve this problem, but I really want to return it and get a new one and get a case cuz mine is really dinged up and even a big scratch on the screen. So I really dont want to hurt the chances of replacing it.
and you said you were tethering...do you get billed for that or is it part of unlimited data cuz they say you have to have a tethering plan...or are you using pdanet?
Um I have a custom rom so you might have to pay for tethering im not sure but I have an unlimited plan so as far as Im conserned they can go...
Just return the phone if your worried about it, dont believe htc you can always go back to wm5 its just a simple rom flash.
never heard of pdanet so no.
If you use HTC support you will be under warrenty if you use something other than an htc rom then you wont be under warrenty.

I downloaded the AT&T program to update my 8525 from HTC and HATE IT. They removed the cool Cingular rings like "old phone" the menu's are now LESS intuitive making it more difficult to reply or delete text for example.
It gets worse for me, my menus are not working properly, when I hit "contacts" it takes me to messaging and on my wifes phone her start menu is getting worse in that many menu items on the screen are not responding or going to the wrong area of the phone
Does anyone have a link to get the HTC TyTn upgrade to WM6 or downgrade to the non-branded WM5 and latest rom, AT&T is not cool at this moment.

This is driving me NUTS!! First I downloaded the 8525 update.
So that I don't loose everything I update ActiveSync to 4.5.
Couldn't get it to sync with my computer. Whatever...
Got PIM Backup 2.5 (very easy).
Try to do the update on the 8525 and I get a corrupted file error.
SOOOO I try and download it again AND 403 Forbidden...???
Did a search for the file name RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00 _108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
and found a copy.... gonna try it....wish me luck.
