HTC Hermes 8525 Sim & Cid Unlock

Well I noticed that there was detailed instructions on how to sim and cid unlock the Wizard but nothing on the Hermes aka 8525. Well this is a link so that if you own a Hermes and want to unlock it so that you can use it on another gsm network. Also you can Cid unlock it so that you can install other roms onto the phone. If you do decide to start roming please read as much as you can and make sure that you hard spl your phone. I guess I will include a bunch of links so that you can do some reading. Also you will notice in my signature what I have currently installed on my Hermes.

This is the link for Hermes Sim unlock and Cid unlock
HTC Hermes SIM Unlock
Also I have added it into the download, utilities section for you.

This is the link so that you can hard spl you phone before flashing this is the first thing you should do before flashing a new rom so that you dont brick your phone.

This is a link for the rom I am currently using for my Hermes.
vp3G's WM6 v3.60 -- The "Hybrid" is back (still THE AT&T ROM, too!) - xda-developers

And this is a picture of what my Hermes looks like.

Well I hope this might become a sticky as the Wizard unlock has become. And please all of this is free but all of these people have spent countless hours making all of this possible so please if you find any of this helpfull consider giving a small donation.

And feel free to ask any questions I have several 8525s and I have no problem taking some time to load software or specific roms on them to test any problems you might be having. I am new to this community and hope to be as helpfull as others have been to me in the past.

Ok, I want my 8525 to look like that so I checked out your Hybrid link & now I'm even more confused. I have wm 5.0 and AT&T. I don't wana download to a desktop & then transfer to my ppc. This is my 3rd ppc & I can't afford to kill this one so I'm pretty scared about this kinda stuff. Since you seem to be VERY educated with this stuff I trust your advice. If I download that Hybrid program directly to my ppc will it work? What could go wrong/be damaged? Will it delete ANYTHING on my phone? How do I even go about downloading? I'm SO lost!

ok there is a possibility that if you do not follow the directions that you might screw up you device but doubtfull.

Ok first you need to cid unlock your device.

Then you want to install olipro v7

then update whatever rom you wish if you have anyother questions feel free to ask.

Ok I get ur directions but I don't understand a thing. So, what is 'cid'? why do I have to unlock it? Do I need a memory card for this? (now dont laugh @ my next Q's what's a 'rom'? what does it do? what do u suggest I use? which 'olipro v7' do I use? what is 'olipro'? And why am I doing all this? I'm sorry for all the questions but I wana know what I'm doing to my phone before I do it. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly I hope I'm not too much of a nuisance.

Wow alot of questions I will answer them to the best of my ability.

Service providers put sim locks on there devices they sell so that they can sell you a more expensive device for cheaper if you use there services. Ok well cid locking is done by the device manufature such as HTC, Organge, O2, ect... Ok what it does is keep you from puting another device manufatures rom on your device so that you cant put a 8525 cingular rom on a TYTN t-mobile vario II

Ok so you have to cid unlock the device before you can install another rom. What is a rom you ask hard to explain. Do you know what your CMOS is? Its a chip on your mother board that has your computers information to tell the computer to run its start up like your POST. Ok the chip uses memory calle rom and the memory doest erase when you shut off your device unlike ram does (this is because the rom has a contant power supply called cmos battery) Ok what does this have to do with a phones rom. Ok the phone doesnt use a hard drive or have other major components like a regular pc has. The rom on your ppc contains sets up instructs for the phone called its OS. If you change this rom you can change different things and how the phone performs certain actions. Some service providers locks there wifi so you have to use there data plan to connect to the internet. So if you use a rom from another service provider that doesnt lock out features then you can use more of the phones abilities.

No you do not need a storage card but they are so cheap Idk why you wouldnt want one.

I would suggest VP3G's rom its the most stable and if you go into a store with your phone with this rom and ask questions you wont throw up any flags like having a t-moble flash screen so they will still help you. Also one of the most stable roms and mostly like the new AT$T rom with alot less bloat and more customability.

Olipro is a software developer from XDA-developers He created a hard spl which will allow you to flash roms with unsigned NBH files. Basically it keeps you from bricking your device by bad NBH files. I would suggest donating a few bucks to him if you use his software.
Hard-SPL, Or How to Not Brick Your PDA Ever Again And Fix Bad Blocks! - xda-developers

You dont have to do this, this is just what I do and others to get the most out of your device.

I used the ATT rom and I am on Cinbell network , works great, as long as you have it sim unlocked.

you might want to try Nates V3g rom with out all the Att bloat ware in it.

new ROM and genral questions

Hello. I am absolutely new to the PPC device. I bought a used unlocked HTC 8525 have had it for a week. I have many questions which I hope you'll answer.
I downloaded the new ROM today Feb 28 2008 from htc america. Is it a good and worthy upgrade?if so, is it advisable to remove the sim card and the SD card before doing the update?
I have mainly contacts list in the device, so far when I synch it with my Pc does it back-up those contacts or do I have to send them to the SD card? Are my contacts back upped or do i need another program instead? i looked in the folder where it has the files in my pc but only found pictures , video but do not know where the contacts back up is.
Will the ROM update lock the device (GSM) again? I need it unlocked because I work in Afghanistan, but travel to USa and South America on break.
I am sorry if my questions might be primitive but I got this to replace a palm m125 and a old nokia phone so my knowledege is very basic and prehistoric PDAwise.

Use PIM backup to backup your contacts and such and save to memory card.

As far as my sig goes I havent kept it current I go through so many different roms its rediculous probably close to 50 since I last edited sig. I just left it at the one that was most stable but am currently using another rom alot faster but not very stable.

As far as htc home goes since you can unistall it from the rom and install a newer version I left it alone.

As far as coffee goes man to be honest unless you sent it a while back from what I recall the last donation I got was back in december. I am very sorry if I didnt send a thank you when I recieved it.
