Cingular 8125 + vista

First I've heard people hate vista and all. But so far I have no problems, in fact I really like it.

Well I have an 8125 and when I connect it to my computer it connects and allows me to see all files on it. Vista has "Windows Mobile Device Center" that allows the connect.

The Question I'm getting at it can I sync files, Contacts, calendar, Etc with vista?

When I looked up active sync it said I did require it for vista b/c of the built in
software, but however it's limited.

I agree that I like Vista more than I thought I would. My expectations were probably set really low.

Yes, when you create your partnership all the same sycning options exist as do with AS.

I thought my 8125 automatically asked about a partnership when I first connected, but you clearly need one. See the screenshot below.

Try manually opening WMDC after you connect. See this for what it should look like.

ok another update I found out the problem why I wasn't recieving the screen you have. I have my cable connected through my moniter's usb port (moniter has all the built in memory card ports: SD, CF, etc. )I'm guessing it assumed my phone was a memory card and windows ignored it being a phone.

Next problem is that WMDC keeps crashing whenever I plug my phone to the cable. Have any answers that might help me? I've must have sent like 50 reports to windows about the probelm, but Of course I have no feedback.

I don't think your issue is the monitor USB, that's what I use. Windows should still see the device correctly. WMDC crashing seems more the problem. Are you running SP1? That has some stability fixes in it for WMDC.

Yes I am running SP1. installed it right after vista (they gave me the CD with it). Should I try to reinstall SP1?

I would try uninstalling and then reinstalling WMDC (you can get the program at the MS website)

OK, let's go to the beginning. You connect your phone to the USB. What happens, and in what order? For example, do you get the "ta-thunk" sound when you connect USB? Does AS start on your 8125?

When I connect I do recieve the "ta-thunk" sound my phone opens the Connect to screen (I assume that would be AS) and WMDC starts to load once it reaches the screen like you have posted up there . It encounters a problem and shuts down, and then it reloads it just to repeat the process.

If you can, I would backup everything on your 8125 and do a hard reset. Then try connecting (but do not create a partnership). If you still have the error, it is almost certainly a problem on the PC side of things. If you do not get an error, recover your backup and try. If you get the error it would suggest some conflict on the 8125 itself with software.

I always use "clear storage" so I don't recall the keys to press for a hrd reset. If you went through setup again you did a hard reset.

So you hard reset, connected and synced (meaning your data came back?) and then the second connect you crashed again?

A hard reset deletes EVERYTHING making your phone like it was when it came out of the box. If you cannot sync to Outlook, backing up is more of a problem. I would recommend you look at Sprite Backup or Resco backup and do a full backup of your PPC to your SD card before you reset. Then you can reset, see if that helps the syncing issue, and then recover your data.

yea hard resets can be a pain...

if your still looking for options on backing up your contacts, I use a free application thing called dashwire. its an easy download and so far it works great! it also stores my text messages, photos, etc.

links pretty easy: dashwire.com
