I just signed up for unlimited Internet access with my AT&T service plan for my Cingular 8125 (I've had the hardware for a couple of years). I can get on most websites but am having trouble with a few and would really appreciate any tips. My Wells Fargo bank site tells me I need to upgrade my browser but I have NO IDEA how to do that. When I select the download links provided nothing happens. Also, I am not able to get on my company's Intranet (I tried the "Exceptions" for the URLs with a . in the address - no luck) and one side item: I tried to download the spb Pocket Plus and my PDA tells me that it is not a valid Pocket PC application. Can anyone shed any light on these dilemas??
Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) dies not meet the security requirements of sites like Wells Fargo. You can get programs that will modify your registry so that sites like this will see you as a full IE and then it will work, but sites that means sites you want to see you as PIE, no longer will. Your Intranet *May* be the same problem. There are also third party browsers you can use.
For SPB, are you trying to download a .cab or a .exe? .cab can be done directly to the PPC. For an .exe you install via a PC and ActiveSync.
As far as the secure sites - what would be the reasons for not wanting some sites to see me a full IE? Also, where do you get programs for full IE?
On the SPB I downloaded the .exe to a folder on my PC that gets synced when I connect. It shows up on my 8125 in a file folder (not Programs) as a .exe but won't open/load. Maybe I did something wrong in downloading?
Many sites have versions that are made to be viewed on a handheld. If you access one of those sites with PIW, but you have changed PIE to make sites think you are a full browser, you will not get the customized page.
As for SPB, I am not sure I understand what you are saying. What you should be doing is establishing an ActiveSync connection on your PC and then running the .exe. This will start the install routine to your PPC.
