A few 8125 questions

Hello eveybody, this is my first post an I will be taking the plunge into the ppc world pretty soon. I was offered a good deal on an AT&T 8125 that I cant pass up. I have a few questions. Please pardon my ignorance.
I will mainly use it for Emulators, video, camera, text. I'm not really interested in the Internet aspect although Opera moble seems really cool.

1. My current plan (AT&T) includes only text messages no internet. Will I be able to slip my sim card in and use this phone with my current plan? Do I need to upgrade my plan? Or can I just unlock the phone and still use text messages?

2. From what I read the phone is able to connect to the internet without me knowing to check e-mail, is this true? If so can I disable this while still being able to send text messages? I dont want to recieve a $300 phone bill because the phone keeps checking for e-mail.

Thanks in advance,
~Nick

1. you should be able to, but sometimes the phone will try to get access to the internet... when that happens, there maybe charges on your bills. so you might want to ask AT&T to block your data connection first before doing it.

2. ... I guess I explained that on one. but you should still be able to send texts. it will only check for e-mails when you set it up to do so, I think. I didn't get to use that phone when I had the chance.

like Shogun said it only connects when you want it to. I have mine set up to receive my emails from yahoo and hotmail every 30mins between certain hours. But I have to tell as well that I upgraded from WM5 to WM6 on my 8125. But you should definitely check with att on your situation of it connecting to the internet on it's own. but you can simple switch out the sim card with no problem, cause that's what I did when I bought my 8125 that wasn't from att (cingular at the time) and everything still worked the same for me..

At the very least you could use AT&T's smart limits and restrict whatever you dont want. There should be a data prevention that customer service can apply for you. Just like I tell my customers at Radioshack, always get a data plan with a smart phone or else it will be costly the few times a month you have to check your email on the go.
