I can no longer turn on my Sprint HTC 6900 Touch cell phone (I've had it about 1.6 years) AND when I try to charge it, it displays a constant red light while plugged into its AC power cord, and does NOT charge at all---the light never changes color from red, and I can't turn the phone on.
I thought it was the battery (being close to two years old), so I replaced it today with an HTC OEM battery, and I'm getting the same thing. The charger is plugged in, a red light appears in the light window at the top of the phone and in some cases goes away after about an hour of "charging." Is the phone shot at this point?
I cannot turn the phone on or get it to light or anything---with it plugged in or not. I've also tried charging it with USB power via my PC and that didn't work either.
Is my phone DOA? Thanks for any help anyone can provide!
Sorry... But take your battery out and plug it in. The light will glow red. Your phone doesn't know the battery is there. Something inside of the phone or battery may have been unplugged. I think you should upgrade or get a replacement.

but I'm not sure what you want me to do? I've taken the battery out and plugged the phone into the AC adapter and yes, the red light glows. But now what? The phone still won't turn on.
I've also tried cleaning the contacts where the battery meets the phone, but again, that didn't work, even with the brand new battery.
What should happen when I plug in the phone without the battery? What other steps should I be taking before I bring to Sprint to see if they can do anything?
Yes, Chris. Still faced with this problem. The phone is DOA. I'm just now leaving to take it to a Sprint repair center to see if there's anything they can do for me. Thanks again.
I went to a Sprint repair center to see if they can once again fix my phone and this time they said it would cost me to either 1) repair it, 2) upgrade to a new phone or 3) replace it with the same phone, AND each cost was going to be above $100. I argued why that was the case all of a sudden and they gave me a bunch of mumbo-jumbo.
Since I really like my phone a lot (HTC Touch 6900 Mogul -- even though its processer is slow), AND since I don't like any other phones that Sprint is offering right now, AND since I'm not ready for an iPhone (money's tight and again, I really just like my current phone and features), I decided to argue the point with Sprint's customer service.
I called and explained that I'd been a loyal customer of Sprint for almost 10 years without ever switching since the first time I ever had a cell phone, that my contract is not up until 6 months from now, explained what was wrong with the phone and what I did to try and fix it (new battery), that the phone is only 1.5 years old and is broke already, and that I was upset with the above $100 cost for all three options above. I had to explain that three times as they kept transferring me to someone else (par for the course with any company phone reps nowadays). Anyway, they wouldn't budge and said that's just what their plan covers right now. I then threatened to leave Sprint and asked how much to get out of my contract (figures... $150).
So, I escalated to a manager and explained my story one more time to a supervisor. We negotiated $60 for a replacement, refurbished phone like the one I have now (instead of the $120 they wanted to charge me). Even though I think the phone should have been free, I figured that price was fine if the phone lasted me another six months or much longer until a phone that I really wanted to replace with comes out (or perhaps by then I'll be ready to jump ship to an iPhone). And, even though it's a refurb, sometimes those phones can be better than a new one since they go through more thorough tests, etc. They also threw in another AC charger and another battery.
I'll probably get the phone on Wed, and ship back my old phone then.
So, overall with a little pushing and shoving, I got what I wanted albeit for a cost. But at least less cost than if I hadn't pushed and shoved.
WOW I guess I can mark that up as another reason I won't go to Sprint. And I would get an iPhone in a heartbeat, if it wasn't attached to AT&T. Congrats on talking them down to $60. And when your contract is up and you get another phone, sell that one on eBay and get your money back.
BTW I thought the Mogul was a 6800? The upgrade was the Touch or Touch Pro. I had the 6800 Mogul, great phone and seemed to be built better than my 6900 Touch Pro.
I had this problem with my htc touch 6900. I had a red light when chargeing and my phone wouldent turn ON! My problem was my power button broke on my mother board in my phone so it was a red light and i didnt know i couldent turn my phone on becuz the power button was broke. Luckly they have a reset button witch will atimaticaly turn the device on!
