A hard reset deletes EVERYTHING making your phone like it was when it came out of the box. If you cannot sync to Outlook, backing up is more of a problem. I would recommend you look at
Sprite Backup or
Resco backup and do a full backup of your PPC to your SD card before you reset. Then you can reset, see if that helps the syncing issue, and then recover your data.
