You guys all rock. I feel like a complete noob on here but I did manage to locate and run the unlock software (ROM as you guys call it) on my just bought and locked att 8525. Now I see I can get wm6 from HTC and I guess I'll upgrade it as in why not?
Question is if I just do the standard upgrade and not one of the fancy custom cooked jobs you guys have dreamed up in the lab, do I need to do the the cid unlock, the hard spl it with olipro v7 first in case something goes wrong with the install. First off I'm not really sure what a hard spl is, but I gather it just makes your device non-revertable to a locked version or something like that. Secondly is there much risk posed by a straight forward wm6 install and/or is there much benefit in it? I mean should I bother? I just bought the device today and it seems to work fine. I looked at a comparison chart of wm5 vs. wm6 and the benefits seemed mainly corporate enterprise based.
Would love your feedback on if I should upgrade, and if so do I need to do the hard spl first or does a barely techno-versant simpleton like me need to worry about it.

PS. It is hard to keep up with what is the latest version of what is available. Seems like they should archive the old versions before posting the new ones or something like that. my 2 cents.
