To install a new OS version requires you to reflash the ROM image area. It does not install like any other software. Putting WM6 onto the device will reflash that protected ROM location and replace the existing WM5 OS image with the WM6. Unlike desktop Windows upgrades, this will typically be a complete OS replacement with nothing left of the prior OS image. That is why it is important to use a ROM upgrade you are sure is intended for your device. Once flashed, it can be difficult to go back if your device is bricked by an incompatible OS ROM. A hard reset will just try to start fresh with a still-incompatible ROM and you may need to send it in for an expensive tech visit to get a working device again. |
