wifi problems with static IP accounts? | | So anyways I've been working on this problem nonstop since my last post.
I think there may be a problem for anybody who has a static IP address as their account with their ISP.
This is because I have tried every possible option in Network Card settings. I am able to connect on someone else's wifi in my neighborhood, yet not my own. This is with as many variables eliminated, such as WEP key and Open authentication (no other option besides Open for the 8125).
I'm guessing that my neighbor probably has an ISP account which dynamically allocates IP addresses, which is the majority of accounts these days.
It also has nothing to do with any data plan, because I got this phone as an upgrade for my wife and have yet to activate service. Still, I have deleted the MediaNet settings, just in case.
Anybody have any suggestions? I've tried using a specific IP address according to all possible scenarios based on my Netgear 802.11b's settings, as well as that of my wifi-enabled laptop. I've filled in all fields and left some blank, the whole gamut. This includes the Name Servers tab too.
One thing very suspicious is when you go into the Name Servers tab after single-clicking on the SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter, it says "Name server addresses may be automatically assigned if DHCP is enabled on the adapter", yet there is no way to figure out if DHCP is enabled on the adapter! Btw, my Netgear says that DHCP is automatically assigned. I actually don't know what that means, but I tried all options anyways.
And via my neighbor's wifi connection, I have verified that PIE is a piece of crap because it only brings up wap-version sites. Opera Mini doesn't work, at least not the Lo-Memory version. So you pretty much have to buy Opera with the 8125.
Btw, I've had my DSL account for about 7 years and back then all they had were static IP accounts. If that ain't broke, I'm not gonna fix it.
Does anybody know if the hp iPaq has a more tweakable wireless adapter?
Meanwhile, I'll continue to dig on the web for answers and call HTC too. |
