Unhappy need basic help with home wifi like everybody else

Tradesman (or anybody else), I've been trying for hours toying around with this thing and checking various forums, and just can't figure how to connect to my wifi.

I think I have nearly the same setup as you and I simply want to connect my Cingular 8125 to my home wifi, which is also a Netgear router.

Will try to email you as well. Thanks and sorry for the bother, but I'm about to give up and return this thing, because this is supposed to be a basic feature and it's proving not to be.

I'm trying real hard to follow but need some more hints:

- G and B enabled...not the Auto 108kb setting
OK, BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY "AUTO 108KB". IS THIS A SETTING SOMEWHERE I MISSED? MY NETGEAR IS 80211b, BUT WHO CARES, IT SUPPOSED TO WORK, RIGHT?

- Wep 128 not PSK
I ALSO HAVE WEP 128-BIT, BUT EVERYTIME I INPUT IT (VIA STYLUS ON THE SCREEN-KEYBOARD -- WHAT A PAIN!), I CANNOT CONNECT. THEN I GO BACK AND CHECK THE CONNECTION SETTINGS AND MY PASSWORD IS TRUNCATED TO MAYBE 8 ASTERISKS INSTEAD OF THE LONG STRING THAT WE NEED TO PUT IN WITH 128-BIT HEX, SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

ONLY ONCE I THINK IT ACTUALLY CHECKED. IT CAME BACK SAYING THE PASSWORD WAS WRONG, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE I HAVE ENTERED THE RIGHT PASSWORD, BUT IT JUST CAN'T GET TO THE INTERNET THRU MY ROUTER.

- adding a static IP for the MAC address of the device
SO HOW THE HECK DO YOU DO THIS? PLEASE GIVE ME REAL BASIC STEPS, SINCE THE NAVIGATION OF WINDOWS MOBILE FOR WIFI IS COUNTER-INTUITIVE.

- Hardware Version V3H1
HOW DO I CHECK THIS?

- Firmware Version V1.0.128_1.0.1 (latest)
HOW DO I CHECK THIS? IF I DON'T HAVE THE LATEST, HOW DO I GET THIS VERSION?

- plus disabling the proxy
HOW DO I DO THIS? CAN YOU GIVE ME REAL BASIC STEPS (TAP THIS, TAP THAT).

- I also called to tell Cingular to disable their services for the internet as i had no need to be charged.
FOR NOW, I HAVE NOT EVEN BOTHERED TO TURN MY PHONE SERVICE ON, FOR THIS EXACT PURPOSE. I HAVE DELETED THE MEDIANET SETTING TOO AS SUGGESTED BY ANOTHER POST IN THIS THREAD. SO WIFI IS MY ONLY POSSIBILITY, YET I CANNOT CONNECT.

Other notes: There's like 7 wifi routers in my neighborhood and my 8125 keeps trying to connect to one of them, but not mine. Unfortunately that one needs a password, so I can't get thru to Internet. Matter of fact, if I try to surf, a screen comes up where I have to enter login, password, domain...don't know what the heck that is.

I don't have the IEEE security thing and it's not checked, so that can't be the culprit either (mentioned somewhere on this thread).

Quite frankly, this is totally absurd how difficult it is to get setup on wifi.

Just to get to the list of possible wifi connections, you have to go to Comm Manager -> Settings -> Wifi Settings -> Menu -> Network Cards. How stupid is that?

Sorry for my obvious tone of utter frustration and for the long post.

PLEASE, ANYONE, HELP!!!
