The tri-colored screen that you saw was the bootloader mode screen. Bootloader mode is used for ROM updates, radio stack updates, etc. You should, actually, be able to get your device
into bootloader mode by soft resetting while holding the camera button, although this does you no good unless you actually have an update the requires you to use bootloader mode. When a device is in bootloader mode, a normal soft reset returns it to the standard mode.
Anyhow, has anyone been able to get this update to work on the Cingular version of this phone? I would be very interested if you have.
