O2 Atom high pitched noise in ear speaker?

I bought an O2 Atom last week at a local store, and was very pleased with the purchase. The next day, I noticed that the phone was making a strange buzzing noise from the screen, and when I put the device to my ear there was a very high pitch whine coming from the unit. The sound is a lot like what one would hear standing behind an old CRT television.

I took that Atom back to the store, and they kindly gave me a new one. The very next day it started making the same high pitched noise out of the ear speaker, and the buzzing from the screen area.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps somehow the charger and/or battery are bad, or otherwise providing too much power to the unit. They did not replace them, they only swapped the phones. The only other constant is the SIM card, and a Kingston miniSD but I would think it would be logical to suspect the charger first.

I was curious if this was a known and/or common problem with the Atom? I am wondering if it is somehow something I did to the unit but I don't see how. I didn't get it wet, and I never dropped or otherwise abused either one of them. I just don't think its a coincidence that two of them have died in my hands, both only after they went on the charger...

I don't want to go back and ask for a third phone, but I am not happy with the situation as it sits as this isn't an inexpensive item we're talking about here!

Any help and/or thoughts appreciated...
