Hack your HTC Wizard and Universal to get 802.11g

Are you dying to get every last drop of speed from your device? Are you always looking for ways to unlock the full potential of your device? Well, if you have an HTC Wizard (Qtek 9100/i-mate K-JAM/T-Mobile MDA) or HTC Universal (Orange SPV M5000, i-mate JASJAR) then you are in luck. With a few registry hacks you can get 802.11g up and running on your device!

Here is description how to do it:
We have tested it with HTC Universal (Orange M5000) and it seems to work!
The test was done in the following way: a Wi-Fi access point that previously was running in 802.11g-only mode, had to be put into dual mode (802.11b + 802.11g) to support Orange M5000 (HTC Universal), but thanks to making the following changes into registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8

... the HTC Universal is able to access Wi-Fi access point that works in 802.11g -only mode. PHM Registry Editor was used to effect this change (but any freeware or commerical registy editor can do it). As before with HTC Wizard, please note: you must reset your phone after making the changes in the registry!

Oh yeah... we don't take any responsibility with what you do on your device, so do this at your own risk! (yada yada yada saving our butts)...
