Oh my! Something about what you posted reminded me of a basic setting that may have been changed!
From memory: Open ActiveSync on your Pocket PC, go to the bottom tools menu (I think that's what it's called). Make sure that you have your computer names selected up top. Then hit the options button. There's a drop down more you can select what type of connections are acceptable for this computer and your office computer. Make sure USB is one of those accepted connections
