I think this would be useful for small movements, but larger movements might cause problems. For example, scrolling through a large map would either require large tilts, which might mean you couldn't see your screen (even small tilts can cause distortion on LCD screens), or you'd need to do a small tilt, exit Navigation Mode, tilt the device back to where you could see it, enter Naviation Mode, tilt it again, and so on.
